A visit to the _shing village at Teluk Jawa (Todak), one of the best spots for local seafood hunting used to be quite a drive via the dusty and winding “old road” but improvement in connectivity and accessibility to Pasir Gudang from the city centre via the new JB East Coast Highway has made the area popular and accessible, leading to a proliferation of fresh seafood eateries, eco-themed homestays and countryside-inspired garden styled weddings. In TJ Cove Garden, a private sanctuary nestled deep in the midst that combines many of the above, yet defying the conventions and perceptions of its rural backdrop, we have uncovered one of the latest gems in one of the most underrated parts of a progressive-growing city.
With no shortage of lush lawns and tall trees, with wood beam ceilings and rustic _ooring, TJ Cove Garden is our closest choice to experience barns, farms and homesteads that celebrate rustic simplicity and the beauty of the wild. As if the barn house itself isn’t reason enough to check out this venue, the beautifully manicured gardens and picturesque coast front really round out the serenity of the setting.
In a place which prides itself on the idyllic surrounding, “_nd dining” in TJ Cove Garden with homegrown event planner George and Chef CK is a perfect choice. CK’s background as the former Executive Chef at the British Club in Singapore enables him to coax every last _avour and texture of each ingredient and deliver it to our plate, including the use of only the freshest Atlantic salmon air-_own directly from Norway! The view of the sweeping valleys and the aromas of our meal being readied in the kitchen is an ideal aperitif itself, as we look forward to what’s cooking from CK’s kitchen.
We were not surprised that the slab of Pan Roast Parmesan Crusted Pork Chops which came with braised red cabbage, tender enough, well-cooked and marinated, tasty enough on its own without the need to dip into the brown sauce, while the caramelised apples and mashed potatoes are also worthy winners. On the other hand, we can see from the dark hue how deeply the seasoning has penetrated the Grilled Chicken Breast. As a result, each bite is packed with pleasant savoury notes while still retaining its moisture, which gives o_ a pleasing texture with every bite. We also derived great satisfaction from the sautéed mushrooms, fondue potato and vege bundle in chicken gravy. Thumbs up!
With views and food like this as a lure, it’s little wonder that diners like us think nothing of making the short and scenic trip east from JB to TJ Cove Garden just for the experience. With George and CK’s dream to create the best country-chic venue for wedding, arts and culture, as well as one of the _nest casual dining restaurants in the city, it looks like they are well on their way to pull it o_!
