Stellar Preschool brought in children from Cheng En home to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, at the same time they held a fundraising event for Cheng En & Shan De homes. It was an evening of mooncakes, entertainment, lanterns, riddle guessing, storytelling and a live band performance.
The Mid-Autumn fundraising event was organised by Stellar Preschool, selling handmade mooncakes and orange jam with the aim of raising RM10,000 that evening for the homes. However, they only managed to raise RM3,000 for the home that evening.
The founder of Stellar Preschool, Daniel Loh said that this was the first time they held a fundraising event in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival.
“Stellar Preschool will be hosting 20 orphans to celebrate Children’s Day on the 27th October 2017. We hope to teach our children that it is more blessed to give than to receive, and to give the orphans the feeling of love, and a memorable Children’s Day,” said Daniel.
Cheng En Home Principal, Irene Loh, said she was happy that the children were treated to a fun evening. “We do not have enough resources and energy to celebrate like this, so it is nice when people come and spend time with us.”
Loh said that currently the home can accommodate up to 20 children. She said it costs about RM10,000 per month to run the home, relying entirely on public donations.
Their biggest challenge is that they need consistent source of funding and also volunteers to teach, especially in Bahasa Melayu and English. Educating children across different background is also one of the challenges that they are facing.
