More than 3000 runners joined the first ever Johor Countdown Run 2016 organised by 1000 Adventure Bhd which took place in Educity Sports Complex on New Year’s eve to promote a healthy way of welcoming 2017.
The countdown run was flagged off by Chief Executive of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), Datuk Ismail Ibrahim for 21km, 10km and 5km run categories which commenced at 7.45pm.
“This special countdown run is not only to celebrate 2017 in a unique and healthy way but to have it as part of Iskandar Malaysia’s 10th anniversary celebration calendar, as a way to fulfill the region’s aim to be a preferred destination to invest work, live, and play,” said Datuk Ismail before the flag off.
A beginner runner Aliah Suhaimi who joined the 5km category expressed that the countdown run is unique to usher the New Year while joining with other local and international participants.
“I just recovered from a surgery and when I found out about the event, I felt it was a good platform not only to celebrate the New Year but also to get back on track. I had a fun time and ran well too,” said Zuqi Said who entered the 5km run.
