Iskandar Malaysia is opening its doors again to facilitate and accommodate more global initiatives to boost the catalytic developments that are on-going in the region. At a recent announcement, it was made official that Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) has partnered with DHL to set-up a Global Centre of Excellence (GCOE) in Medini 6, Iskandar Malaysia.

This one-of-a-kind centre will provide supply chain consultancy services, as well as provide support for businesses to design logistic solutions which are specific and tailored to selected key industries in Iskandar Malaysia. The industries that will benefit from this establishment will range from the automotive to healthcare, and will also encompass engineering, manufacturing, information technology, and many more.

Present at the official announcement of this milestone event, as well as unveiling the new logo of GCOE was Mayor of Iskandar Puteri, Tuan Haji Adib Azhari Bin Daud. He expressed his thoughts on the partnership stating that this will be a huge boost towards the economy of the region, especially when logistics and transportation segments have been optimised.

“A strong base of logistics solutions and talent will not only allow the Iskandar region to achieve its ambitions of becoming an ASEAN supply chain hub, but also provide vital trade connectivity between its core industries and overseas markets where opportunities are plenty,” said Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad, President and CEO of Iskandar Investment Berhad. He also added that the GCOE will play a strategic role in creating job opportunities and export growth that underpin the region’s economic plans for the future.

The GCOE will serve as a facilitator in connecting companies with key stakeholders within Iskandar Malaysia. Logistics vision and ambitions of the centre is also to organise networking sessions and workshops where companies and industry experts come together to share best practices by brainstorming innovative ideas that will be vital for the rapid development of Iskandar Malaysia.

In 2007, DHL has established a similar Supply Chain Centre of Excellence in Singapore that delivered multi-million-dollar returns within its first 36 months of operation. The GCOE in Iskandar Malaysia is set to be operational in Q2 of 2018.
