The mayor of Johor Bahru and officials of its council graced an event at Seri Austin recently in conjunction with Earth Day. UMLand Seri Austin CEO, and Acting Group Director for UMland Townships KK Wong was also present to accompany the mayor and other VIPs for a bike ride around the township.
The mini pedal event brought everyone along the new Seri Austin – Setia Bridge route that will ink Seri Austin Township to Setia Business Park, Eco Business Park, and Seelong.
Officiated by Tuan Haji Amran A. Rahman, Mayor of MBJB, the opening of the new 68 metre bridge is an alternative route that aims to reduce travel time from Seri Austin to Kempas old road and Senai Airport.
Around the same vicinity, the riders made another pitstop near the Seri Austin Lake to throw Effective Microorganisms (EM) Mudballs into the lake to promote a sustainable and eco-friendly environment. This EM Mudballs will help maintain the cleanliness of Seri Austin’s Lakes.
“Our passion and commitment towards green initiative has led us to be recognised as the first Smart Healthy City and Communities Township in 2014 and a model township in Iskandar Malaysia,” said KK Wong.
Also happening at the event were several other activities such as EM Mudball Making Competition for Primary Schools, Push Bike Fun Race for children age 2 to 7 years and BMX Demonstration.
During the event, five primary schools took part in a competition to create EM Mudballs namely, SK Taman Daya 2, SK Kempas, SJK (C) Foon Yew 5, who took the first, second, and third place respectively. The two other schools were SK Taman Mount Austin and SJK (T) Ladang Tebrau.
This is part of Seri Austin’s commitment to raise public awareness on the importance of creating sustainable environment for the next generation through its involvement in these CSR activities.
The Earth Day celebration in Seri Austin is held annually to cultivate a healthy lifestyle within the community and it is supported by MBJB, IRDA and Happy Riders Connect.
