Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has sealed an agreement with University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) for the development of maritime and logistics studies through training of its students and platform sharing for research and development in maritime technology and port management.
The Memorandum of Agreement was signed by officials from both PTP and UMT for an industry-academia collaboration and training and development partnership during the 2017 UMT Business Partners Appreciation Ceremony and Launching of ICoE Cluster Maritime held at TH Hotel & Convention Centre, Terengganu.
PTP was represented by Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer, whereas UMT was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr. Nor Aieni Binti Haji Mokhtar. Also present during the signing ceremony was Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Bin Ismail, Deputy Director General from the Department of Higher Education, Malaysia.
Marco Neelsen shared that as one of the world’s top container ports, PTP is looking forward to working closely with UMT in developing industry-ready graduates through programmes such as the Structured Internship Programme (SIP), 2u2i Programme, Industrial Training programme as well as research and development activities.
“Through the programme, participating students will be trained and exposed to the complex job dynamics and how to empower their leadership skills. This, in turn will equip the students to become a better, all-rounded talent in the future and subsequently supplement the port industry with a young graduate talent pool that meets the requirements in the long run,” said Marco.
The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr. Nor Aieni Binti Haji Mokhtar said, “UMT fully supports the implementation of this programme and through this initiative, we will send students in accordance with the requirement of the specific company involved.
