Musical Excellence at Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2019

Puteri Harbour jazzed Saturday night away at its largest and free Jazz event in Malaysia

It was third time’s a charm for Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2019 (IPJF 2019) that ran for the third year since 2017, organised by UEM Sunrise Berhad (UEM Sunrise), one of Malaysia’s leading property developers and master developer of Iskandar Puteri. IPFJ 2019 rapidly grew into a regional draw for music enthusiasts due to its emphasis on musical excellence and diversity.

Jeff Saw Seong Keat, Director Southern 1 of UEM Sunrise said, “As the master developer of Iskandar Puteri that aims to become a world-class city, UEM Sunrise have been organising placemaking activities throughout the year since 2016 at Puteri Harbour and its surrounding areas to enhance the livability of this township.”

Johor State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Committee Chairman, Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said festivals like this not only provide healthy entertainment for the youths but also open up avenues for alternative employment to them compared to conventional career choices.

This year the event featured renowned guitarist Alex Hutchings from the United Kingdom, known for performing with Michael Jackson on Thriller Tour and joining 4-time Grammy Award nominee Steven Wilson’s live band touring and supporting Wilson’s To The Bone album.

Other musical powerhouse who performed was Singaporean vocalist, Alemay Fernandez, a veteran performer in the Asian jazz scene who has performed with legends like Wynton Marsalis & The Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra. Locally established jazz musicians Noryn Aziz and upcoming singer-songwriter Bil Musa who has signed up with Yuna Room Records also lent their presence at IPJF2019.

Besides the entertaining music and great ambience, festival-goers also enjoyed the marina breeze amid the beautiful Puteri Harbour backdrop, with vendors offering a variety of freshly prepared food and beverages, local unique clothing, art pieces, accessories and so much more.
