Creating an active ecosystem and community for developing technology
The first for Malaysia and through a collective effort by the Johor state government and Khazanah Nasional Berhad’s i2M Ventures Sdn Bhd, Blockchain Village at Medini, stylised as BVAM, has officially launched at Medini, Iskandar Puteri, Johor to support the growth of Blockchain ecosystem in Malaysia.

BVAM as presented by Zulfiqar Zainuddin, Managing Director of i2M, aims to develop the blockchain ecosystem in Medini City, to enable blockchain service providers, including established institutions, blockchain start-ups and stakeholders the platform to further develop their technology and to encourage market adoption. It will serve as the central hub to promote the blockchain technology in the country, drive innovation and develop the required talent for this emerging sector.
Officiating the launch is Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Haji Jamal who said that BVAM will help achieve several of Johor’s strategic intents especially in the development of Johor’s ten year sustainable development plan for the creation of High Value, High Technology and High Impact Economy.
Supported by Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB), Khazanah-linked companies and close to 50 stakeholders from the industry, BVAM is projected to bring in 1,200 jobs and RM562million of revenue by 2022. BVAM will also support organisations that are interested to adopt blockchain for their business through workshops, forums in order to expand the benefits of blockchain to the Malaysian market.
The launch also welcomed Singapore’s Blockon Ventures Sdn Bhd as an aggregator, Nexuslabs Sdn Bhd and iCycle Malaysia Sdn Bhd as two new blockchains into Medini.
Japanese OK Blockchain company during the launch had held a graduation ceremony for 107 new employees selected from 6 different public universities who had undergone their job training as a part of GBS Iskandar’s Campus Connect Initiative to meet the goals of developing talents and making them available for the blockchain system.
