Recognition for intensive smoke-free efforts in UMLand Seri Austin
UMLand Seri Austin was awarded The Blue Ribbon Outstanding Achievement (Anugerah Pencapaian Cemerlang) for the implementation of smoke free workplace at the Blue Ribbon Campaign 2018 Recognition and Awards ceremony held at Dewan Serbaguna Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia, Putrajaya. The ceremony was officiated by Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Introduced by the Malaysian Health Promotion Board (MySihat), the Blue Ribbon Campaign recognise and honour significant roles contributed by people and organisation who save people’s lives from second hand smoke and advocating towards a 100% indoor and outdoor smoke-free environment.
2014, MySihat recognised and accredited two out of five townparks at Seri Austin as the First Smoke Free Townpark in Iskandar Malaysia.
Seri Austin’s smoke-free journey began in 2014 with its anti-smoking advocacy work through the introduction of the smoke free zone especially in public townpark.
Chief Executive Officer cum Group Director of UMLand Townships, Wong Kuen Kong (KK Wong) said as the first developer in the state to make such a move, a lot of effort and sacrifices were made to make it happen.
The Blue Ribbon Award is an international campaign introduced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for the Western Pacific to recognise and acknowledge people and organisations working to implement and support the WHO Framework Convention provision on Article 8, protection from exposure of tobacco smoke.
