Facilities for SUKMA 2020 targeted to complete by end of 2019
The Sports Johor Logo has been finalised and officiated by Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar, the State Youth, Sports and Culture Committee Chairman.
The event provided a vision of the future by implementing more strategic and dynamic sport events for educational development and effective sports training. The role of Sports Johor is seen as a facilitator and moderator of sports development in Johor which is managed by Johor State Sports Council (MSNJ).
Sports Johor Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the state-linked company Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ), will focus on organising sports events, formulating strategic marketing as well as providing educational and sports training to youths who excel in sports.
The formation of Sports Johor is in conjunction with Johor being the venue for the 20th Malaysia Sports (SUKMA) in 2020.
Mohd Khuzzan said the venues for SUKMA 2020 included Larkin Arena Stadium, the stadium at Mount Austin and the Larkin Indoor Swimming Pool.
“The state government had started two years earlier to prepare Johor as the host for SUKMA in 2020.
Aside from SUKMA 2020, the CEO of Sports Johor, Haji ‘On Bin Jabbar said that Sports Johor is also in the midst of planning electronic sports (e-sports) events.
“We noticed that the youth nowadays are more interested in electronic sports rather than physical sports itself. We are looking at different venues such as shopping malls. E-sports should be held at shopping malls to attract crowds and there will be attractive prize money offered to get more youths to participate,” said Haji ‘On Bin Jabbar.
