MAH’s ‘Feed The Hungry’ CSR Project 2017 ended on a festive note

The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Johor Chapter’s CSR Project to ‘Feed the Hungry’ in collaboration with the Kechara Soup Kitchen Society Malaysia for 2017 ended with the last 150 packed food contributed by the Puteri Pacific Hotel as the last member of a series of seven.
“As we are in the hotel business, we have the ready resources to help the homeless and hungry in our community. More so that as a Chapter of a membership of hotels, we have the advantage of numbers to collectively make an impact to the project,” said Ivan Teo, Chairman of MAH Johor Chapter.

The CSR project called ‘Feed the Hungry’ was initiated by the Chapter Committee on 3rd June 2017 where on every Saturday, seven hotels took turns on a monthly basis to contribute 150 packs of vegetarian meals to volunteers from the Kechara Soup Kitchen who brings the food to the homeless scattered in several areas of the city. Each hotel also provided four employees to go along with the Soup Kitchen to help distribute the packet meals.

“We are grateful to M-Suites, Amari Johor Bahru, Thistle Johor Bahru, New York Hotel, Le Grandeur Palm Resort and the Puteri Pacific Hotel for generously coming forward to be a part of the ‘Feed the Hungry’ initiative of MAH Johor Chapter,” said Daniel Alcaraz, General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru, who is also the committee member overseeing CSR for the Association.

In thanking the Chapter for aiding in their cause, Justin Cheah of the Soup Kitchen said, “Kechara Soup Kitchen does not just feed hunger, but it also feeds hope. By distributing food each week, we established a trust that allowed us to work closely with them to help them become contributing members of society once again.”

The project will not end here. The Committee Members of MAH Johor Chapter will roll out another series from 12 member hotels again for 2018.
The Kechara Soup Kitchen Society was the recipient of The Iskandar Malaysia Social Hero Awards (IMSHA) in 2014 the Poverty & Hunger Relief Category.
