The Club visited the children and organised a Dental Camp at the Sobbhana Women’s Foundation in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
As part of its International Community Service Project, Rotary Club of Johor Bahru (RCJB) had visited the Sobbhana Women’s Foundation in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and met HRH Princess Norodom Marie of Cambodia who is the President of the Foundation.
RCJB’s President Datuk Teo Shiok Fu JP presented RCJB’s annual sponsorship to HRH Princess Marie and met with the 25 children from underprivileged families which RCJB sponsored under the Sobbhana’s Women’s Foundation’s Education Project for the last 10 years.
The Foundation helps sponsor the education of primary school children so that they will receive an education under their Education Project. They also received school uniforms and stationeries.
In conjunction with RCJB’s 10th visit, a Dental Camp was organised with the Cambodian Dental Association for 2 days, at the premises of the Foundation. 120 students from underprivileged families, aged between 6 to 16 years’ old received dental check-ups and treatments. They were also taught proper dental hygiene.
4 senior dentists from Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia assisted by 15 dental students from 2 Cambodian universities participated in the Dental Camp.
Dental visits are very expensive in Cambodia and these children would normally not have access to dental care.
Each child also received a Colgate toothbrush and toothpaste pack, sponsored by the Cambodian Dental Association.
As the 66th President of RCJB, President Datuk Teo Shiok Fu JP and his team had carried out several community projects throughout 2017 in order to help the needy and underprivileged with a focus on children’s welfare and education.
“We are happy that we have helped ‘Make A Difference’ in the lives of these children in Cambodia with our annual education sponsorship and this year’s Dental Camp there, said Datuk Teo.
Sobbhana Women’s Foundation is a non-profit humanitarian organisation founded by HRH Princess Norodom Marie of Cambodia.
