Educating students on recycling as well as reducing the impact on our environment
Kerry Ingredients Malaysia had undertook a new bold initiative part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) that aims to recycle electronic waste and help not one, but three different schools in Johor, by donating used desktop computers and educating students on recycling as well as reducing the impact on our environment.
As a company that is committed to responsible sustainable development, the company undertook the Eco School initiative in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature to support selected schools and turn them into a 21st century classroom environment.
“E-waste is becoming an increasingly pressing problem today because of the sheer number of poisonous chemicals that is released into the environment when they are dumped in a landfill untreated,” said Prabageran Thiagarayah, SEA Continuous Improvement Manager.
This year, Kerry Ingredients donated items such as refurbished computers, projectors as well as other items including furniture to three selected schools in Johor – SMK Dato Penggawa Timur, SMK Munshi Abdullah and SRJK (T) Masai. Kerry staff also conducted several activities with the children including soap making and creating their own fertiliser.
“As we continue to adopt the latest and greatest that technology has to offer, we want to ensure that we look out for ways in which we can reduce our impact on our environment,” added Prabageran.
