Become one of the state’s English Language torch bearer this weekend  

500 participants are expected to gather at New York Hotel for this year’s ELT Conference organised by the Johor English Language Teaching Association (JELTA). An annual conference with teachers and students, individuals such as tertiary professors, tuition centres’ instructors and other individuals who would love to widen their perspective in the English language are also more than welcome to attend it.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) has regularly organised workshops, seminars and the annual ELT Conference. This year the theme would be, “Multiple Perspectives in the Teaching and Learning of English as a Second Language” and is strongly supported by the Johor Education Department.

This year, 4 teachers would be awarded the Johor Excellent English Language Teacher award for their contribution in the development and teaching of the English Language in the state while 2 students will be receiving the Outstanding Student Leadership Award for Johor state. 2 school principals will also be receiving Appreciation Awards as well.

Meanwhile, JELTA is also focusing on opening opportunities for teachers and students from the rural and underprivileged areas.

As its 10th year of holding the ELT Conference, JELTA will be having Dr. Maszlee Malik, Minister of Education and US Ambassador, Kamala Shirin Lakhdir for the opening ceremony and Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, a writer and activist who would be delivering a special address to the teachers before Nurul Izzah Anwar, MP Permatang Pauh officiates the closing ceremony.

20 local and international speakers from various backgrounds in the English language education practise would be sharing their pedagogy in their workshops and 6 plenary papers would be held during the three day event.

The ELT Conference will be held from 27th to 29th July 2019 at New York Hotel, Johor Bahru, at 8am. Participation fee is capped at RM170 for interested individuals while it is fully waived for underprivileged teachers and students.
