The French football club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), had recently announced the official launch of its Asia Pacific office in Singapore.
Headed by Sebastien Wasels, Managing Director of Paris Saint-Germain Asia Pacific, the regional headquarters will serve the Club’s aim to build on its international presence, increase the brand’s visibility, cultivate new partnerships and nurture its significant fan base it has in the region.
“Asia is our top priority market. We have a lot of fan love in this region and see tremendous talent which we look forward to developing through our best in class training programmes, as well as promoting the core values of our Parisian identity,” said Al-Khelaifi, Chairman and CEO of Paris Saint-Germain.
Al-Khelaifi added, “We are delighted to open our first international office on the Asian continent and look forward to bringing the Club closer to our fans.”
As one of the fastest growing football clubs in the world, Paris Saint-Germain has attracted many great players including Ronaldinho, David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and more recently, Neymar Jr., Kylian Mbappé, Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva. The Club’s international fan base is now the 7th largest with over 55 million globally, of which 17 million are in Asia.
The launch of the office coincides with Paris Saint-Germain’s Asia Tour which will see the club play in the International Champions Cup in Singapore followed by the Trophée des Champions on Saturday, 4th of August 2018 in Shenzhen, China.
Highlighting the importance of Malaysia to Paris Saint-Germain, Wasels said, “Since the launch of our fan club in Malaysia, we have seen incredible growth. Our fans in Malaysia are highly engaged and are inspired by the club’s ambitions and success.”
He added, “PSG’s Asia Tour is the first of our initiatives to bring international level championships to Asia and engage with the Club’s fans as well as for the PSG’s sponsors and partners to benefit from the club’s growing popularity in the region.”
Pledging increased investment via youth football development, eSports and CSR initiatives to connect with communities across the region, as well as partnerships with brands and sporting organisations, Wasels said, “Asia has always been the cornerstone of the club’s international development strategy. We hope to leverage our club participation in the International Champions Cup and the launch of our Asia Pacific headquarters to build a strong foundation here in Asia and continue to engage with both fans and partners in the region.”
