Youth to lead the generation of golf power in Johor
A Golf Apprenticeship Programme made its inaugural mark with Pasir Gudang District Education Department, Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort (TPGR) and SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) event at Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort. This marks the first ever golf resort to host such programme which originates from Goh Hock Lai, Golf Manager of TPGR.
SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort, the adopted school of the golf resort would be the first to benefit from the programme that is looking into instilling the fundamental and basic knowledge of golf to the youths. The objective is to develop a new generation of potential and talented junior golfers and ultimately, transform Pasir Gudang into “Malaysia’s Golfing District” that also acts as part of TPGR’s corporate social responsibility towards the Pasir Gudang community as the sponsor for the youth programme.
Attending the inaugural event was Exco Haji Aminolhuda Bin Hj Hassan, Chairman of Johor Education, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee with Deputy Director of Johor Bahru Education Department (School Administration), Ab. Rahim Lamin who came to witness the signing of MoU.
The Golf Apprenticeship Programme focuses on students aged 16 and above, studying in Form 4 and 5 to learn and be more in the know with golf and industry that revolves around it.
The aspects that would be covered in the programme includes golf operations like taking care of the buggies, job scope of a golf caddy, starter, attendant, marshall, registration and more. Other than that, the rules and design of golf course, the basic golfing technique like correct posture and swing to play golf, golf course maintenance like divot repair, weeding, bunker raking, grass cutting and blower among others are also included in the modules.
