Hard Rock International funds music programme at Johor’s refugee schools
Hard Rock Heals Foundation through Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast (HRH Desaru Coast) has connected with Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cahaya Surya Bakti that houses three refugee schools for Rohingya children, with a grant of USD5000 (about RM20,439) to fund students’ music-based education that include lessons, instruments, performance opportunities and even pursuing a music study scholarship.
In the course of 12 months, 150 students will attend monthly music lessons at HRH Desaru Coast and be taught by experienced music teachers including the hotel’s band members and staff. The hotel will provide a place for the students to have performing opportunities, and a 1-year music scholarship to learn an instrument which will be given to two best performing students.
“More than means of expression, music connects people and cultures. Working closely with Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cahaya Surya Bakti, we at HRH Desaru Coast hope to provide a platform for the students to discover the power of music and to inspire the love for music. We are very excited to begin our partnership with them and together, continue working towards inspiring and building hope through music,” said Peter Wynne, Area Vice President of Operations (APAC), Hard Rock International.
Soraya Alkaff, the Founder & Executive Director of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cahaya Surya Bakti said, “By working closely with HRH Desaru Coast, we are glad that the children are given valuable opportunity to learn music as part of their school curriculum. This exposure and skills learnt will be very useful for the children in the future and impart good virtues in their growing up years.”
The Hard Rock Heals Foundation was created by Hard Rock International in 2016, aiming to contribute positive means to people and communities through music. Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast is one of the select 50 grant recipients to extend their effort and mission.
