Following the “Batik: Exploring Natural Dyes Exhibition” held back In May, 2017 And “Batik: From Seed To Textile” in March, 2019 at Kuala Lumpur, Yayasan Warisan Johor, Think City, The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), Kuala Lumpur Natural Dye (KLND) and Natural Indigo Lab & Atelier (NILA) will proudly co-organise “Natural Dye Exhibition” at Galeri Tenun, Johor, Johor Bahru.

The Johor Bahru’s exhibition will be showcasing the works from 2 natural dye exhibitions, where the first one attempts to showcase the various colours made purely of natural dyes and how it is applied with wax resist technique of batik, while the latest goes through a full cycle discovery of batik dyeing using the plant-based natural indigo (indigofera tinctoria) that was scientifically researched and practiced guided by Japanese dye master, Hisako SUMI.

The two previous exhibitions were jointly-organised by The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) and Kuala Lumpur Natural Dye (KLND) and the new exhibition in JB aims to introduce the beautiful colours of natural dyes produced with natural local materials.

Yayasan Warisan Johor and Think City, are bringing the exquisite and mesmerising dye works to the audience in Johor, hoping for a new collaboration with Galeri Tenun (Johor) to happen in the near future.

The exhibition is set to run from 1st December 2019 till 26th February, 2020 at Galeri Tenun Johor, Johor Bahru. Admission is free and the opening hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm (Sunday-Wednesday), 8:00am – 3:30pm (Thursday), closed on Friday and Saturday, and 1:00pm – 2:00pm on Sun to Thursday.
