With the motive of continuing their mingle activities with a charitable cause at heart, a diverse group of expats and Malaysians brainstormed and came together to make a difference by giving back to the community.
“Families in poverty are denied a fair start in life. They experience poor health, struggle to access education, and are much more likely to be involved in crimes. By fighting against poverty, we can give innocent children a brighter future,” said the organiser, Poonam Singh.
In their December charitable mingle event, the group joined hands with Kechara Soup Kitchen under Merlin Hoo (KSK Head of Johor Bahru) and Johor Women’s League (JEWEL) under President Liza Alip to work together on various charitable projects for 2019.
The night of glitz and glam saw The Expat Charity Mingle 2018 raise RM21,000 from donations and ticket sales.
“In 2019, we expand our scope and work with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) and JEWEL to identify people in need. Our aim is to help underprivileged families,” added Poonam.
“As for our immediate family beneficiary, we are proud to announce that with the help of KSK we were able to buy back to school necessities and groceries for December. On top of that, from the support from JEWEL, 4 of the children will start schooling from January 2019. The school bus fee will be paid for as well,” said Poonam.
“We are very happy for the selected family. It is just a scratch on the surface, but a march of a thousand miles begins with a single step. We look forward to the journey ahead hand in hand with your support,” she added.
The event will not be successful without the help of generous sponsors and key people.
