Johor welcomed archers from around the world to compete for a shot at glory
The 4th Johor international Archery Tournament held recently at the Seri Gelam Field at Merdeka Square in Johor Bahru came to its conclusion with a tense shootout between the participating teams.
“We would first like to thank the mayor who managed to provide us with a space for the tournament as well as Tourism Johor. This time around we had a bigger competition pool. We had 338 participants from Singapore, Philippines, United States, Australia, Indonesia and of course Malaysia. This is the most competitors we’ve ever had for a tournament,” said Tuan Haji Mohd Shukri, President of the Archery Association of Johor.
“The objective of the tournament was to help promote Johor, with the coming of Visit Johor 2020 next year. This was also the first time for many of them to visit Johor. The second objective was to prepare for SUKMA. Many of these participants are part of SUKMA teams of their respective states including a team from Johor. As some of the competitors from Singapore were representatives for SEA games, it was a good opportunity for our players to test themselves. Our goal for SUKMA is at least 2 Gold medals,” he added.
