The iconic Mandalay guitar standing tall at the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast

Check in like a boss and let the show begin!

When I say don’t judge a book by its cover – do exactly that as don’t let the simple façade of Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast (Hard Rock) fool you as the big Mandalay guitar and interiors will transform you feeling like a rock star. Hard Rock is conveniently located in Desaru Coast, a vibrant and premium integrated destination resort in Johor and 1 hour away from Senai International Airport and is easily accessible via the E22 Senai-Desaru Expressway.

Save the environment, Reuse and Refill!

Our luggage and check in process was handled swiftly by the front office team and what psyched me was the friendly banter and smiles each staff had on them. So, kudos to a great start! We checked into our Deluxe Room with King sized bed and private balcony located on the 5th floor overlooking the world’s biggest waterpark – the Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark. And as I swayed to the R & B rhythm; my chosen Sound of my Stay, I was also excited to check out the brown Sunburst Fender guitar complete with headphones and amp in the comfort of my room.

Eat amazing cakes and play board games at the same time, at the Instaworthy Constant Grind coffee bar

I can go on about my room but what I really loved is the music inspired bedding, the huge long-length mirrors (every woman’s dream come true), the convenient Rock Spa bathroom amenities, eco-friendly refillable water bottles and complimentary mini-bar (replenished daily). I then headed to Level 1 to Constant Grind coffee bar for some much needed latte and cakes! Executive Pastry Chef Sri Ganes just wowed me with his classic New York cheesecake and Brownie! I love this outlet as you can simply read a book or play board games with your family as you take a sip and poke at you goodies or savour an ice-cream. They also have Grab & Go combos if you’re in a hurry and want something light to eat.

Enjoy Mexican flavours by the poolside at The Elephant & The Butterfly

As it was close to my little hungry monster’s dinner time, we checked into The Elephant & The Butterfly – their Mexican poolside bar & grill at Level 3. The wall art here may remind you of 2 of Mexico’s greatest artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, and the modern take of Mexican cuisine here is just what you need. The lil’ guy chose his meal from the Kid’s Menu which has choices of nuggets, pasta and etc. While waiting for our meal, we were served with complimentary walnuts and raisin charcoal buns with a side of salsa. Then we had a generous platter of Jalapeno guacamole with tortilla chips, followed by Soft Shell Tacos (totally delicious!) served with a side of salad, guacamole and salsa which is a current promotion till June (RM28 nett per set) available from 11am – 10.30pm. For the mains, we had Grilled Spiced Salmon with mango relish and poblano rice and Pollo de Super – Chicken served on an amazing bed of mash with avocado. For drinks let the award-winning bartender cum outlet manager Chris surprise you with his rendition of cocktails or mocktails! As we wanted to listen to the live band, The Sharp 9, play at the Lobby Bar GMT+8, we had our drinks there coupled with great music.

Take a dip into the pool which has music playing at the rock-bottom!

After a fab night sleep on the comfortable bed, we went for a dip in the pool which has music playing at the rock-bottom! We then had scrumptious local (special shoutout to Nasi Lemak Pandan!) and continental breakfast buffet at Sessions located on Level 1 – an all-day dining outlet. Do not miss out the daily morning appearance of Buddy Jr (the Roxstar Mascot) and the clown giving out balloons to the children. This place not only has delicious food, but excellent service, very child-friendly including cutleries and the perfect place to have celebrations or a sit-down meal with the family.
