Nationwide power supplier Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will be working on 142 upgrading projects in Johor Bahru within 2 years
2 major power outage incidents caused many parts of Johor Bahru city to be left without electricity unexpectedly in recent times. The latest occurrence of this power failure was in September 2018 where the Johor Bahru City Centre and its surrounding areas were affected.
Johor International Trade, Investment and Utility Committee Chairman, Jimmy Puah mentioned that he had requested an incident report from TNB to address this issue as it is unacceptable for Johor Bahru to face such problems gearing up to be an International City.
“There must be steps taken to preempt such incidents from happening again, and it is not acceptable. According to the TNB report, precaution is taken through upgrading the electric network in Johor Bahru and through routine maintenance,” Puah said at a press conference near Senai Airport City.
TNB will invest RM349 million in total of 142 projects to upgrade all the systems in Johor Bahru within 2 years.
“17 projects are aimed to improve the 33kV systems in JB with an approximate cost of RM229 million whereas RM120 million will be set aside for the upgrading of the 11kV systems. All upgrading works are expected to be completed by December 2019,” Puah added.
