Discover how plastic bricks turn into iconic landmarks
When you step into LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, have you ever wondered how those tiny plastic bricks could turn into a masterpiece of iconic landmarks of the world?
The answers lie in Merlin Magic Making Studios (MMM), the creative heart of Merlin Entertainment. The Global Creative Division for rides & attraction development, also known as the magic behind all LEGOLAND parks.
The Merlin Magic Making Studio gathered and recruited locally trained LEGO model builders to closely work together, to recreate iconic building and scenes with just LEGO bricks. The process to produce these iconic landmarks consists of surveying locations, computer rendering, construction of the models and post production to ensure the integrity of the model is preserved. The only limit is your imagination when it comes to the world of LEGO.
Currently, LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort attracted their visitors with their unique feature of LEGOLAND Malaysia Miniland which has our very own Johor Majestic Palace. The Johor Bahru cluster, comprising of 323m² involved a total of 35 LEGO builders. More than 1.4 million bricks were used to create notable landmarks such as Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim & Masjid Jamik Sultan Abu Bakar. Visitors can expect an enhancement of the Johor Bahru cluster coming their way, including the construction of the iconic bustling scenes of Jalan Dhoby, Johor Bazaar and the old Chinese temple.
The Merlin Magic Making Studios Malaysia was first incorporated in January 2009 in Gelang Patah to meet the developmental needs of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort. But since their work extends worldwide such as LEGOLAND Dubai and LEGOLAND Japan, the studio has expanded to house more than 60 employees. The new hub of Merlin Magic Making Studios located in I-Park, Indahpura, Kulai, will have increased capacity to include over 100 employees by 2020, in order to support the growing demand for LEGO models in the region.
