Over 1,600 participants in various categories came back to challenge their endurance and stamina at EduCity’s Ultramarathon Malaysia 2018
From the evening eventide to the wee hours before dawn, over 1,600 participants came back to EduCity Iskandar Malaysia to challenge and endure the new Ultramarathon Malaysia 2018 brought to the public by EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (EduCity) and Hivelocity Management Sdn Bhd (Hivelocity).
Once again, the education hub hosted a one-of-a-kind event which featured the Ultramarathon Malaysia 2018. Created by Hivelocity, Dusk to Dawn put forth a fresh take to the ultramarathon scene in Malaysia. It is the first to moot and initiate different challenge segments for the various race categories.
5 Race categories were presented at the Ultramarathon for serious and fun runners alike, which were 5km Rookie run, 12km Challenge, 20km Dare, 45km Endurance and 60km Dusk to Dawn.
A new feature introduced by the organisers were two pit-stops along the course whereby should any participant wish to take a breather can do so by taking a knee at one of these stops while the timer is being paused.
Flagging of the runners from each category was Sugumaran Kailasan, EduCity’s Chief Operating Officer who was accompanied by Abdul Malik Ismail, Tourism Johor Director.
“This is the third year that we are organising a night run, before it was called Sundown, but we have rebranded it to EduCity’s Dusk to Dawn Ultramarathon Malaysia 2018 for a more close-to-home feel,” said Sugumaran.
EduCity is a catalyst development driven by Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB). It is a fully integrated education hub expected to be a feeder of talent to support Iskandar Malaysia’s various economic activities whilst grooming future generations of leaders.
The EduCity Sports Complex is set to be a hub for sports development in Iskandar Malaysia not only catering to the education institutions in Iskandar Malaysia but also open to other industries to hold events and other activities which require a large open or closed space.
“We are also offering our facilities for SUKMA Johor and still eagerly waiting for any news from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the state government on including EduCity Sports Complex as an event venue or perhaps for training and warm up sessions,” said Sugu.
