The club emerged as the winners for the first time in the Johor Rugby League 2018

The Beringin Rendang Rugby Club created history for the first time when they emerged as champions in the Johor Rugby League 2018 when it defeated Scudie Komodo team with a triumph of 8-6.

The final match held at the Rugby Field at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, saw Beringin Rendang Club which is mostly lined by young players with the support of some former national players lagging behind the game when the opponent earned 3 points through a successful penalty. But this did not dampen their spirits when winger Amir Hadapi brought the points up to 5-3.

The second half of the match was pretty heated with Beringin Rendang still lagging but they picked up their pace as they were determined to win the match. This became a reality at the eleventh hour through Amir Aswad in penalties bringing the score to 8-6 and Beringin Rendang Club emerged as champions in the Johor Rugby League 2018.

“We have been waiting for this glory moment for the past 9 years and the team had undergone various development and intensive training programmes to compete in this year’s league. I’m glad of this historical win and pledge to continue my commitment to this team to achieve more in the future. I also want to thank the team and its management for their dedication which resulted in this win,” said Fizwan Dato’ Haji Mohd Rashidi, the patron of Rugby Club Beringin Rendang.

Champions Beringin Rendang brought back the Johor State Rugby Association Presidential Cup and cash prize of RM1000. Tuan Haji On bin Jabbar, Chief Executive Officer of SUKMA Johor 2020 with, Tuan Haji Mohd Noorazam bin Dato’ Haji Osman, the President of Johor State Rugby Association handed over the coveted prize to the team’s captain, Nazmi Hussin.

The icing of the cake was when their “prop” teammate, Nur Muhammad Iqhram Afizal was crowned as the best player of the finals.
