The Petrosains Science Festival, the largest science-themed festival in the country organised by Petrosains, The Discovery Centre had finally spread its wings down south at Petrosains PlaySmart Johor Bahru in Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor.
The festival received hundreds of visitors from all walks of life especially families, students, and teachers who came to experience the science of tomorrow, aligned with the theme ‘Journey into the Future, One Discovery at a Time’.
The participation from children and students were amazing with educational hands-on workshops on Rubber Powered Car, Paper Plane Dart, Robotic programme and interactive science shows on Liquid Nitrogen and Dry Ice.
Organised in collaboration with partners, the first festival was held in 2013 at Petrosains in KLCC. This year the festival was brought to other parts of Malaysia with Petrosains PlaySmart Johor as the second venue outside of Kuala Lumpur to host the festival after Kuantan, Pahang.
Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of Petrosains said, “The science centre aims to make science accessible, engaging and interesting to the public through exhibitions, events, competitions and festivals”.
Among the activities that caught the attention of the children were the “Cycling for the Juice” booth, Virtual Reality booth, and Media-based Aquaponic where the children stood a chance to make their own mini aquaponic and brought them home.
Meanwhile Petrosains also prepared exciting activities for students including rocket launching, parachute making and key-chain crafting as part of the learning platforms to produce a future generation of scientifically literate and critical thinkers in the nation.
“We hope the community here has benefited and enjoyed themselves with the learnings and offerings that we have brought,” added Nasariah.
The festival will continue next from 14th to 16th September 2018 at Petrosains, Level 4, Suria KLCC Concourse and the Esplanade, KLCC Park. Browse through www.sciencefestival.my for detailed schedule. – by Nurfarahin Zahiridin
